The commission

How TheFork charges

Whether TheFork charges a fee depends on where the booking comes from. This is what the TheFork Manager price page says:

  1. 1

    Via TheFork, Tripadvisor and partners

    Fee per guest

TheFork charges a fee for these bookings. According to its price page, it's based on a percentage of your average bill per guest.

  2. 2

Via your website, Instagram and Facebook

    Commission-free

With TheFork's booking widget, these bookings come commission-free.

A look at your numbers: Check your TheFork records to see which bookings came through the platform. How many of them were regulars who'd have found you anyway? Those are exactly the guests who can book straight with you.

Straight to you

One request, one tap, done

This is how a direct booking works with momoscreen. No platform in between: the guest asks you, you say yes, and the date is in their calendar.

What fits when

Platform, direct or both?

It depends on who sits at your tables. A platform and your own channels don't rule each other out. Three typical cases:

  1. 01

Lots of tourists and new guests

Is your place in a tourist area and full of guests who don't know you yet? Then a platform like TheFork gives you reach. The fee is the price of those new guests.

  2. 02

    Regulars and the neighbourhood

Do most people come back – from round the corner, from the office next door, for breakfast on Saturday? Then let them book straight with you. They find you anyway, so there's no need for a fee per guest.

    PlatformStraight to you
  3. 03

    A bit of both

Use the platform for new guests and your own channels for everyone who comes back. Your QR code is on the table: anyone who's been once can book straight with you next time.

If you run both side by side, it stays simple: you confirm every momoscreen request yourself. You check first whether the table is free – so nothing gets double-booked.

Where TheFork offers more

To be honest: in a few areas, TheFork Manager can do more than momoscreen. For most small restaurants, that doesn't count for much. Here's what you do instead:

Floor plan

momoscreen has no floor plan. Requests land in a list, and when you confirm one, you decide where the guests sit. With a handful of tables, that works just fine.

TheFork: Digital floor plan in TheFork Manager.

Card and pre-payment

momoscreen doesn't take pre-payments or card details. You confirm every request yourself. If the guest can't make it, they cancel with one click in the email, and the table is free again.

TheFork: Credit card guarantee and pre-payments in the Performance and Enterprise plans.

Reminder before the visit

momoscreen doesn't send reminders. Once you confirm, the guest gets an email with a calendar entry, so the booking is in their calendar.

TheFork: SMS booking reconfirmation included.

Switching

Switch in 4 steps

You don't need a technician or a contract. You set everything up yourself in the app, step by step. New requests land in your list from day one.

Side by side or phase it out?

You can keep TheFork running at first and see how many guests book straight with you. Your contract with TheFork sets out when you can cancel.

Questions

Questions about the TheFork alternative

Your question isn't here? Email us at info@momoscreen.com – we're happy to help.

Is momoscreen really free?

Yes. No subscription, no commission per guest or per booking, no setup fee.

Can I use TheFork and momoscreen at the same time without double bookings?

Yes. The two aren't connected: you won't see TheFork bookings in momoscreen. Still, nothing gets double-booked, because you confirm every momoscreen request yourself. You quickly check whether the table is free, then say yes or no.

What do I need for the booking link on Google?

A verified Google Business Profile, because Google only shows links on verified profiles. Plus reservations turned on and a menu with at least one category, because the link opens your QR menu. You copy the link in the app, and the guide shows you every step on Google.

Does a booking via Google cost anything with momoscreen?

No. The booking link is free, however many guests book through it. Your overview shows how many reservations came via Google in the last 30 days.

Is the menu really included?

Yes. Bookings run through your QR menu: guests see your menu first, then tap “Reserve a table”. You choose from 30 styles, can have the menu translated into up to 3 languages and can print it too.

What happens if a guest can't make it?

They cancel with one click in their confirmation email. You see it at the bell in the app, and the table is free again. No phone call needed.

How do guests find me?

Through your Google listing, the QR code on the table, your website or Instagram – and they book straight with you there. momoscreen isn't a portal: your guests stay your guests.

Can I bring over my TheFork bookings?

There's no import. New bookings land in your momoscreen list from day one; add existing ones with “Add reservation” if you need to.

Do guests need an app or an account?

No. Everything runs in the browser on their phone: scan the QR code or open the link, book, confirm the email.

What happens to my guests' data?

momoscreen tidies up by itself: unconfirmed requests are deleted after 7 days, notes 30 days after the visit, and guest data is anonymised 6 months after the visit.
